Malampaya Project
|
|
This is the first project awarded to Consolidated Pipe Carriers (CPC), a Joint Venture between Comarco and CEC.
Following 18 months of preparation, surveys and negotiations, CPC secured the contract for the carriage of 240.000 metric tons of cement coated pipe for the Malampaya Submarine Pipeline to be laid between Batangas and the production platform off Palawan Island, Philippines.
Over a period of 5 months, 5 modern multi-purpose bulk vessels peformed simultaneously, delivering a total of 530 kilometers of cement coated pipe from the port of Kuantan to the dynamically positioned pipelaying vessel 'Solitaire'.
The entire operation was performed on schedule and without any damage to cargo, lost time or accidents. |
This is the first time conventional single hold box shaped vessels have been used for the supply of a large tonnage of pipes directly to the pipe layer. The traditional method of using either tug & barge or pure pipe carriers, proved uneconomical in comparison with the high speed and versatile vessels that CPC had contracted.
CPC provided a complete logistical package, comprising contract management at Kuantan, loading to precise stowage plans and to a tight schedule, and also supervision offshore at 'Solitaire' coordinating the arrival, safe berthing alongside and offloading of the CEC vessels.
At no time was the pipe laying interrupted as a result of shortage of pipes.
